What type of camera should you buy?

Interactive session with demonstrations and clear specific advice for each candidate based upon their specific requirements. Suitable for all levels of photographer but mainly aimed at beginners wishing to get more from their photography and want to upgrade their equipment.

1. Background reason

• What do you want to photograph?
• Where and how often do you want to take images?
• How much do you have to spend now and in the future?
• Where will you show/use your images?
• Where will you store your image files?
• Do you want to edit/process/retouch your images?

2. Shooting Modes

Understanding how your camera captures images

• Relationship between Aperture, Shutter speed and sensor sensitivity (ISO).
P, A, S, M, X, Av, Tv, TAv, Sv;

• what do they all mean.
• Full auto, semi-auto, manual
• When to use each mode
• Aperture Compensation

3. What else you might need to consider?

These items will be touched on to explain how they impact or are impacted on by the various modes. They are covered in more detail in the ‘Improvers course’.

4. Interactive session

• Due to the small number of delegates there will be time, with guidance, to use your own camera to try the various modes.
• Please bring your camera with you. The course is generic in nature to cover all brands of camera, however it would be beneficial if you could also bring any instruction manuals in case of brand specific variations.
